Young Professionals in the Workplace.. Insights on the Changing Landscape

Thursday, 16 June 2016

The Paxton Companies planned and moderated an interactive learning session “What’s Driving the Young Professional Today?” at the 49th Annual Atlas Forum in Chicago.

The session focused on young professionals and how they are forcing changes in workplace trends, including corporate relocation. Topics addressed included compensation and benefits, recruiting and retention, and relocation benefits packages. The session was moderated by Todd Janssen of The Paxton Companies with panelists, Suzie Grieco of SG2 Recruiting, Scott Kelley of Hospital Corporation of America, and Kristin Peterson of Louisiana Pacific Corporation.

Suzie spoke of the major factors that impact how a Young Professional chooses where to work, which include: Mission, Culture and Finances as well, what young professionals look for when selecting a firm, and finally, how long professionals of this generation expect to stay in a particular job. Scott focused on Compensation, stressing that young professionals are not lazy, but in fact motivated, however, they do expect to be rewarded early on in their career. Kristin gave us multiple scenarios where her firm has relocated young professionals and what the expectations where for each employee. Despite ranking third on the list of top workplace values, pay is becoming more important to young professionals. Without competitive pay, Suzie say, a company’s mission and culture don’t matter.

Our goal was to educate our audience on the changing landscape of the workplace, and that young professionals are a vital part of every organization.

The session was extremely well attended and audience participation was great, as each roundtable had to present answers to questions we asked them about young professionals today. We thank the Atlas World Group for offering Paxton the opportunity to be a part of this great event, as well our corporate guests and fellow Atlas agents for their participation.
