Food Fight 2016

Monday, 16 May 2016

There was a great turn out of Paxton Team members, friends, and family this past weekend for the 2016 Food Fight - The Battle to Fight Hunger - at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA.

The annual Food Fight Event is hosted in partnership with hunger relief organization, Feed My Starving Children. Thousands of volunteers from across the Northern Virginia community came together with a common goal to fight world hunger by packing 5 Million meals in just 1 weekend. That is enough meals to feed 14,000 hungry children for an entire year. We are delighted to learn that at the event end, the goal of 5 Million was actually surpassed!

The 2 ½ hour upbeat session Paxton took part in was over in what seemed like the blink of an eye thanks to the fun music, team packing challenges and upbeat spirit of all involved. By the end of our 2 ½ hour session, over 550,000 meals were packed - WOW! Special thanks to the 15 team members who showed up to knock out hungry on Saturday!

In addition to the man hours volunteered for this event, Paxton also donated a car load of shelf stable food items which were ultimately brought back to local food pantries in the area.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived, but WOW! The amount of people that volunteered was amazing. This definitely wasn’t FMSC’s first rodeo either. They were very organized and efficient. Everything worked like a fine tuned machine. It was a lot of work but fun and satisfying. The two hours were gone before I knew it. I would volunteer again," says Joe Sartori, IT Director of Paxton Information Technology department.
